this year I share a video to encourage each and everyone of you — friends and family and facebook onlookers – to support @Firebirds Track Club of Montgomery County Maryland

As the newest Granmimi supporter to #RunRaylynnRun campaign I invited patrons to donate to Raylynn’s overhead expenses for the Summer 2016 Sacramento Track and Field Jr Olympics in Sacramento California.

To all who were generous, who offered their kind support, and in particular Raylynn’s Mom Nicole her Dad and our extended family we want to thankSidney Hairston and Angel H. Hairston for their generous efforts with donations from friends as well as Corliss Collins Clark President Emeritus and all of the Firebirds management team members for working out the best options to cover costs for our trip to California

Reading of the Poem DESIDERATA by Grace C Walker

A 1927 poem by American writer Max Ehrmann. Largely unknown in the author’s lifetime, the text became widely known after its use in devotional and spoken-word recordings in 1971 and 1972.

Max Ehrmann

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

Cuba, a vacation exploration for the curious traveller…

Welcome to Cuba!  a local  vendor cheerfully poses

 “What I know deep in my bones is that when you have done the same thing for 50 years and nothing has changed, you should try something different if you want a different outcome,” Obama said during a televised news conference. “And this gives us an opportunity for a different outcome.”

The Cuban Capitol

With this announcement from President Obama in December 2014, the tides of change for Americans to court friendship with an exiled neighbor after 50 years of defiant discord sent waves of excitement, anticipation, suspicion and mystery to curious travel seekers within the US and its outlying hemispheres.
